Meet Maxine

Hello, I’m Maxine, and thank you for taking the time to visit The Roade House Yoga Studio.

If you’ve found your way here, there’s a good chance you’re looking for something. Perhaps you’d like to feel stronger, move more freely, sleep a little better, manage stress, or simply carve out some time for yourself each week.

Whatever has brought you here, you’re very welcome.

Like many people, I didn’t begin my yoga journey because I was naturally flexible. I started because I was curious about how movement could help us feel better, both physically and mentally. The more I practised, the more I realised that yoga isn’t about touching your toes or mastering complicated poses. It’s about learning to look after yourself in a way that feels sustainable for life.

That belief has shaped everything we’ve created at The Roade House.

I’m fascinated by the science of wellbeing. I love learning about healthy ageing, strength, balance, sleep, nutrition, recovery and longevity, and then finding practical ways to bring that knowledge into everyday life. Yoga is an important part of that picture, but I believe true wellbeing comes from combining movement, rest, nourishing food, time outdoors, good habits and genuine human connection.

Over the years I’ve continued to expand my knowledge through specialist training in restorative yoga, yoga nidra, meditation, mindfulness and yoga as medicine. I’m also studying nutrition because I believe the more we understand our bodies, the better equipped we are to care for them.

Outside the studio you’ll usually find me walking in the countryside, cycling, planning the next hiking adventure or enjoying time in nature. The outdoors has become one of my greatest teachers, which is why our Wild Wellness retreats combine yoga with woodland walks, mindful activities and the simple joy of slowing down.

One of my favourite parts of teaching is seeing people surprise themselves. Someone who thought they had no balance suddenly standing confidently on one leg. Someone who arrived convinced they were “too stiff for yoga” discovering that their body is becoming stronger and more capable. Someone who came looking for exercise finding friendship and confidence as well.

Those moments never get old.

When I’m not teaching, I’m usually reading the latest research, recording a wellbeing podcast, developing new classes or thinking about how we can make The Roade House an even better place for our community. I’m always asking one question:

“How can we help people live healthier, happier lives?”

That’s the heart of everything we do here.

Whether you join us for a weekly class, a private session, a sound bath or one of our seasonal retreats, my hope is that you’ll leave feeling stronger, calmer and more connected than when you arrived.

Thank you for being here.

I hope to welcome you to the studio very soon.

Maxine

A Few Things About Me…

Favourite yoga pose
Easy Twist Lunge. I love the combination of strength, openness and gentle rotation. It feels grounded, energising and reminds me that yoga can be both strong and restorative at the same time.

Favourite drink
A proper hot chocolate. Especially after a walk on a chilly day or while watching the sea.

Favourite breakfast
A bowl of porridge with berries, seeds and a generous sprinkle of cinnamon.

Currently learning
I’m studying nutrition alongside my yoga teaching because I’m fascinated by how movement, food and lifestyle work together to support long-term health. I’m also enjoying learning Spanish whenever I get the chance.

My happy place
Anywhere I can combine nature with the sea. Walking along a quiet beach, sitting with my feet in the sand or simply watching the waves reminds me to slow down and appreciate the moment.

My four-legged companion
Ted, my much-loved poodle. At nine years old, he’s happiest with gentler adventures these days and is always ready to keep me company.

Favourite adventures
I love holidays with a challenge. Whether it’s trekking through the Albanian Alps, hiking in Slovakia, continuing my Camino journey or exploring somewhere completely new, I enjoy experiences that take me outside my comfort zone and leave me with lasting memories.

What I hope people feel when they leave one of my classes
A little stronger, a little calmer and a little more confident than when they arrived.

One thing I truly believe
Small, consistent habits have the power to transform our health. We don’t need to do everything perfectly—we just need to keep showing up for ourselves.
